The Satellite Gardens are located about two miles
from the Cafe and Antique
Gardens, in Ramcat Hollow. It is a 60 acre property that Mr. Kettler
has owned and landscaped for the last 30 years. It is a bold, wild
landscape made up of streams, fields, boulders, hedgerows, a mature
hardwood forest, miles of trails, and several perennial gardens. One
of the highlights of the landscape is the giant fern garden, with
ferns over five feet high! Much of the landscape has an arboretuem-like
quality, with large trees, including poplars, red oak, quaking aspen,
white oak, cherry, hemlock, and maple. One area along the creek is
where the largest trees in the gardens grow and it is known as the
Sacred Grove. The gardens are not manicured as our intentional style
of landscaping is to make things look wild, rustic, and natural. Mr.
Kettler has toured many gardens throughout the United States, and
considers his Satellite Gardens to be most similar to to the rustic,
natural landscapes of the
Bloedel Reserve, in Seattle, Washington, minus the mansion and
other more formal features. One thing these two gardens surely have
in common is large colonies of ferns and alot of moss.
This area is open by appointment only and requires
reservations and a guided tour by Mr. Kettler. One hour tours are
available at $17 per person and two hour tours are $35 per person.
